The taster workshop will explore the adult social care working environment, of which there are a number, and discuss the needs of vulnerable adults alongside the emotional and practical skills needed to work in all social care fields.

Course aim

This is a taster workshop to explore different types of adult social care and also to explore the values, principles and emotional skills needed to work in adult social care.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Discuss thoughtfully the different forms of adult social care jobs
  • Reflect on the skills and personal values needed to work in adult social care.
  • Decide if you want to take your exploration of adult social care further towards in the direction of other courses and, eventually, a job.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • There will be lots of discussion and some small group work ensuring all voices can be heard.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Pen and folder to keep any notes made or given during the session.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
