The drawing and water colour course is designed to explore different ways of looking, drawing with paint and pencil and also developing some watercolour techniques. The aim is to have fun and learn some new skills with watercolour from still life and also using your imagination. Using colour in a way to express your feelings and relax will also be encouraged.

Course aim

Introduction to drawing and painting techniques (watercolour); drawing and painting with a brush and watercolour. Start a fresh with art or improve your art practice and express yourself through colour.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • develop use of watercolour painting techniques or improve use of colour and paint-handling.
  • Improve your well- being through having fun in an art session working with other people and socialising with others interested in art.
  • develop your colour mixing skills and knowledge of colour relationships, colour theory.
  • use colour in an expressive way and also to show some still life flowers and objects.
  • develop some composition skills to help continue painting independently

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • You may need to wear an apron to keep clothes clean.
