This course is for people who are interested in finding out what Tai Chi and Qi Gong are, as well as for those wishing to learn and practice some foundation exercises, postures and movements. These will be a gentle form of exercise that is suitable for people of all ages. It consisting of slow graceful movements, accompanied by natural breathing, that help to develop both physical strength and mental well being

Funded by RBKC. The course takes place at Chelsea Theatre studio, 10 Worlds End Place, SW10, just behind the main theatre (which is closed for refurbishment).

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the principles, practices and health benefits of Tai Chi and Qi Gong practices

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • 4 Qi Gong postures to improve overall health and wellbeing
  • Low impact non-aerobic stretching exercises to improve muscle strength and flexibility in the joints.
  • Physical strength and body balance through foundation Tai Chi walking and breathing exercises
  • An introduction to the postures and movements of the Tai Chi 24 Form in Yang style
  • Improved co-ordination, concentration, cardio vascular fitness and general flexibility

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Bring water
