Ancient Egypt, the land of the pharaohs - the last of the great African Civilisations. In this short course we will have a taster of the art, architecture and artefacts discovered and link them to religion :As Herodotus said: 'They are the most religious people in the world'.

Course aim

Introduction to the art and architecture of Ancient Egypt for a greater appreciation of this ancient civilisation.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • have a basic idea of Egyptian art and why it was used.
  • Discover examples of architecture
  • Understand the basics of Egyptian Religion and History.

How will I be taught?

  • It will be in the form of lectures and projected images. Comments on the images are welcome.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • In the form of discussion.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
