This course will look at more complex blocks both hand and machine made. The techniques involved with quilt construction, working on a large piece of work, and free machine quilting.

Course aim

To explore further into the subject of Patchwork tackle more complex blocks and both hand and machine techniques

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Anyone may join this course who has a general interest in quilt making you may wish to pursue your own ideas for quilts I am here to make that dream come true.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use the rotary cutter safely and accurately
  • Complete a patchwork block using sewing machine
  • complete a hand stitched block
  • machine quilt a sample
  • Place a zip into a cushion

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
  • You may be expected to progress your work in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • each technique will be produced each week and brought in so that encouragement can be given and feedback on how well you dealt with that technique

What else do I need to know?

  • you will need to provide your choice of cotton fabric, thread that matches your chosen fabric colour

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

  • Progress to a course with another provider
