Craft: Fun with Fabric

We will be exploring the different techniques in colouring fabric and threads. Space dying fabric and threads, plastic bag dying, fabric and threads.

Course aim

The main purpose of this course is to explore colour

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • no previous knowledge is required for this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • knowledge of space dying.
  • How to colour threads
  • how to colour a range of colours onto cotton fabric
  • write the recipes for various dye's
  • make up one item using dyed fabric

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • you will be expected to rinse out dyed fabric at home at your leisure.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • Keep a record of dye recipes and how you achieved the different colours

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • your will need to provide 2 metres of pre washed 100% cotton Fabric a roll of large sandwich bags

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
