Basic ICT Skills for Beginners

This course is intended to help you develop new computer skills and build on any existing ones, which will enable you to gain confidence in using a computer and learn how to find information on the Internet, i.e. shopping, looking up info, book a holiday and have an idea about Internet security. You will also be introduced in using Microsoft Word to enable you to create a basic letter, using formatting, saving and printing documents.

Course aim

This course will enable the learner to have a basic understand of how to use a computer and be able to navigate the Internet

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Find your way around a computer
  • Create e-documents & edit them using available Word Processing tools
  • Format documents using underline, bold and italics
  • Save and print documents
  • Surf the Internet

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
