The Turkish literacy course is suitable for adult Turkish speaking women. This course gives second chance to those women who were unable to obtain an education when they were off school. Also, this would be the first step in their period of education. This course would prepare the next step of their education life. On the other hand, this course helps to enhance their understanding of social life and to develop their capacity to solve everyday life problems as well as to strengthen their sensitivity to the family and community.

Course aim

To contribute an opportunity to Turkish speaking women how to read and write in Turkish. It helps with them for the next step of their education and encouraged to participate in other courses offered by WEA.

  • This course is for beginners

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Reading and writing in Turkish language.
  • To build self esteem and self confidence.
  • To have respect from my community.
  • To have benefit from the other educational opportunities.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
