Students will promote flexibility, balance and coordination by practising a series of slow, gentle exercises from the Chinese art of Tai Chi and the related art of Qi Gong. The course is aimed at retired students and for the first half exercises will be seated.

Course aim

The course will introduce retired students to gentle, slow exercises from the Chinese art of Tai Chi. Such exercises can improve suppleness and concentration.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Know warm up exercises
  • Understand more complicated Tai Chi/Qi Gong exercises
  • Know some exercises well enough to practice on their own to maintain health benefits

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Wear loose clothing and comfortable shoes such as plimsoles

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
