The High Renaissance - the genius of da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael and others & how they revolutionised western art. In this course we will delve into the minds of these complicated geniuses, examine their art work and their relationships with patrons and society.

Course aim

The High Renaissance - The course will cover the Giants of the early Cinquecento - da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, Giorgione & a few others. We will discuss their art work, their society and personalities.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand the great works of the High Renaissance.
  • Have knowledge of how a work of art is created.
  • Learn about issues affecting the artists and their society.

How will I be taught?

  • Students are welcome to discuss works of art and give their opinions.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • The teacher will answer questions and clarify any points that are not clear. And encourage students to have the confidence to analyse works of art.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
