Textiles for the Outpost Shop - Developing Ideas for Accessories

This term we will be designing and making accessories for the Outpost shop. We will liaise with the buyer for the shop and work towards a greater level of professionalism. Students will experience the entire process from agreeing designs to making, presenting and selling the work. We will also be stretching and framing existing work in preparation for an exhibition of our work to be held later in the term.

Course aim

To identify, design and make decorative accessories that reach a professional and are able to be sold at the Outpost shop in Holloway Road.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Students need a basic understanding of the sewing machine.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make designs for an accessory to be sold in the Outpost shop
  • Make experimental samples
  • Work to a professional standard
  • Produce a decorative accessory
  • Evaluate and present work

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
