Introduction to Microsoft Office (BBO/WiLL project participants only)

It is suitable for learners who have never used a computer before. It will cover everything from how to turn on the computer, understand Microsoft Office packages. You will also learn how to produce documents containing words and pictures. Create an email account, compose, reply and forward messages.

Course aim

The course aims are for the learners to gain confidence using IT and Microsoft Office. It will enable the Learner to understand the basics of how Email, Word, Excel and Powerpoint are used and how it benefits users in the working world.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Confidently switch on and shut down a computer safely.
  • Use a Word Processing application where I will have the ability to enter text and format a document.
  • I will be able to confidently use the internet to search for information
  • I will be able to confidently use a computer to communicate via email
  • I will have the ability to send emails to family and friends.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • When attending a WEA session it is important that learners do bring equipment these being a writing pen and pad and also a memory storing device (optional).
