Exploring 2D and 3D textiles

Taking inspiration from the ’50 years of Children’s Books’ exhibition at the National Centre for Craft & Design, this day course will explore simple and effective ways of producing 2-D and 3-D card, paper, or textile object that can be adapted for displaying multi pages at a single time.

Course aim

To explore 2-D and 3-D textiles using mono-print, frottage and collage techniques to create a flag book or a 3-dimensional textile sample

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Learn how to make a fold out booklet from one single sheet
  • Learn how to make a flag book for sample textile display
  • Learn how to select and combine 2-D and 3-D materials

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • If you have basic drawing materials, sketchbook and notebook bring them along. Also if you have embroidery threads and a small favourite object (matchbox sized) that you would like to use as an inspiration source bring that along too!!

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
