The Big Art Debate!

Ref: C2341555

Each session will be a discussion or debate about a particular theme or aspect of art, posed as a question, eg Was El Greco an Influence on early Modernist artists such as Picasso and Cézanne? This is slated for week one, but otherwise students will have the opportunity to decide what subjects or issues will be debated, and these could be topical, perhaps relating to current exhibitions, events or even a contentious opinion piece in the media. Relevant images and background material will be provided by the tutor, but students are welcome to bring in and share material they may have or have researched.

Course aim

Was El Greco a vital influence on Picasso and Cézanne? The course will debate a range of intriguing questions - selected by both tutor and students - concerning art and art history.

  • compare and contrast works of art

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • The tutor will provide a range of visual and textual material, but sessions will be discussion based with no pre-defined outcome

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
