You don't need to be highly skilled for this watercolour workshop, but a little knowledge, even at a basic level would be useful. Using animals as our inspiration we will explore drawing, colour and composition along with technique. There will be small demonstrations throughout the day as well lots of individual practice with guidance and tuition.

Course aim

The aim is to provide an opportunity to improve and build on your sketching and painting skills with a view to you applying them in your own work.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Sketch out ready for painting
  • Use watercolour to describe what i can see
  • Mix and use paint in an interesting and creative way
  • Make a pleasing composition

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • There will be group demonstrations and one to one help and guidance throughout the day.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • If you have watercolour equipment and materials bring what you have to the session.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
