The course intends to improve student’s awareness of some useful everyday essentials skills. Sessions with a variety of activities will help students understand: Employability skills topics such as: information about job application, filling in a job application form and the job centre. Personal skills topics such as: personal Identity, personal information and how to interact with others. Everyday life skills topics such as: understanding signs and symbols, directions and my neighbourhood.

Course aim

The course aims to teach students basic skills required for daily life.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Learn how to fill in job application forms, and how to apply this to other forms filling.
  • Demonstrate understanding of social sight vocabulary relating to personal identity.
  • Learn the formal language used in signs and symbols.
  • Understand how to follow and give directions.
  • Develop vocabulary to talk about neighbourhoods and where people live.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
