This course is aimed at people who want to learn how to organise and manage files and folders on computers, mobile phone, camera etc. You will create new folders and files and move and store them on the computer. You will also learn how to send and receive emails with attachments, upload and download attachments and store emails. The course will cover how to create simple Microsoft Word documents.

Course aim

To give students with basic computer skills the opportunity to practice those skills and develop new ones focusing on storing files such as music photos etc and sending emails with attachments

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Move files (music, documents, photos etc) between folders and devices eg camera, mobile phone to demonstrate understanding of Window file system.
  • Create new folders and move files and folders on the computer
  • Move files and folders to a datastick and to/from other devices
  • Send and receive emails with attachments
  • Create new, simple MS Word documents

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Handouts and course notes will be given but students should bring a a notebook and pen.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • Students should arrive at the course able to use a mouse and keyboard and be able to navigate windows and the desktop. Students should be able to log in and send simple emails
