Women Artists

Ref: C2341064

The course will reference a range of female artists from the Middle Ages to the modern day, but focus in particular on a selection of artists whose careers contributed to women's art emerging from the shadow of male domination, while also producing some outstanding and fascinating works. The course will include famous artists such as Artemisia Gentileschi and Frida Kahlo, but also lesser known ones such as Emily Carr and Marie Bashkirtseff. We'll consider how art by women progressed from the Renaissance onwards as well as how it fits within the prevailing art of the time. Above all we'll consider a key range of works that reflect on the subject of woman as artist
