Course aim

To explore the way in which the Cavendish family accrued power.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify with three examples key strategies by which the Cavendishes enhanced their political position.
  • List key member of the family and identify places associated with them.
  • Explore some of the ways in which Cavendish women and wives flouted the systems in which they lived.
  • Explain the role of the Cavendish family during the Glorious Revolution of 1688.
  • Discuss at least three of the ways in which the Cavendishes changed the political and financial landscape of Derbyshire.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

  • Nothing else is needed
