A practical and flexible way of improving your ICT skills using Office 2010. You will work towards achieving individual New Clait Units such as File Management and PowerPoint and improve your skills in word processing techniques such as mail-merge and advanced word processing skills.
Course aim
Improve your IT Skills and Word Processing Techniques by using packages such as File Management and PowerPoint. Students will be able to create documents using a variety of IT applications.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
- For level 1 you need good basic computer skills or an entry level 3 qualification.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Begin working towards understanding the New Clait File Management Unit.
- Begin working towards understanding the New Clait PowerPoint Unit.
- Begin working towards understanding Word Processing Skills I.
- Begin working towards understanding Mail-merge I.
- Begin working towards understanding Business Presentations I.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
- You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
- Keyboard practicing at home to improve your speed.
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
- A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
- Practical tasks, written and verbal feedback from your tutor, completing practice assessments, internal WEA assessment and student diary.

- All materials will be provided
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- Students will be provided with a folder to store handouts and notes. Bringing a notebook would be useful too.
