Meditation and Mindfulness

We will explore Meditation and Mindfulness through a variety of perspectives. These will include an introduction to the psychological and Buddhist views. We will also look at the work of Professor Paul Gilbert on Compassion. There will be an opportunity to look at sound, colour and aspects of the second chakra.

Course aim

Exploring Meditation and Mindfulness and seeing how we can include these into our everyday life.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a level 2 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Deeper understanding of Compassion applied to the self.
  • Experience of colour, sound and the second chakra
  • An individual plan for including Meditation and Mindfulness in your everyday life.
  • A Personal Journal of your Meditation and Mindfulness experience.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • The inclusion of writing, drawings, 'scrap-booking' as an ongoing recording of your Meditation and Mindfulness journey in a Personal Journal.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • The recording of your experience of Meditation and Mindfulness in a Personal Journal.

What else do I need to know?

  • Pen and notebook for Personal Journal.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
