Mindfulness Yoga 2

Mindfulness Yoga is about working with awareness with breath and movement. Each week we will practice the 7-Way Stretch for the term, Salute to the Sun in small groups and a range if asanas (yoga postures) seated, lying, standing and inversions. Each session will finish with a mindfulness breathing meditation and yoga nidra (guided relaxation).

Course aim

This course will work in depth with mind and body with the breath as the link. Mindfulness will be the underlying ethos.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • One to two years experience of yoga required.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Practice a range of asanas (yoga movements) with the breath.
  • Practice the 7-Way Stretch for the term.
  • Practice a mindfulness breathing meditation.
  • Be familiar with yoga nidra (guided relaxation).

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Yoga mat and block. The latter can be purchased from the tutor if preferred.

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
