Ref: C2340849

This is the chance to meet with other players and make music together in a friendly ensemble environment, improving your technique, musicianship, sight reading and understanding of music theory in the process. Sessions operate as band rehearsals tackling accessible arrangements of a diverse musical repertoire. For players of elementary to intermediate standard with the ability to read standard music notation. Students supply their own instrument and music stand. All instruments welcome

Course aim

To enable students to acquire and develop the skills needed to play in a music ensemble, develop and maintain the skills and technique needed to play a musical instrument, and develop greater confidence to participate further in musical activities.

  • Feel inspired to develop research skills eg listen to musical recordings, attend live concerts.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • Informal observation and monitoring of ensemble performances each session, with the tutor giving verbal feedback to the group instantly and frequently. Recordings of some performances and evaluating them as a group. Question and answer.

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Music will be provided but students need to bring their own instrument and music stand

Pre-course work, reading and information sources
