Concerts in Depth

Ref: C2340845

Whether you’re a seasoned concert-goer or first-timer, this course is for you. Each week we will take a lively, user-friendly look at, usually, one major work due to be performed in Nottingham, usually from the season at the Royal Concert Hall, occasionally also other venues. We will study it in some detail, listening to and discussing recorded extracts (in most cases there will be time to explore the entire work in this way). We will also consider it in a wider context including, where relevant, composer’s life and career, relevant works by the same or different composers, and more general cultural issues. To include works by Haydn, Beethoven, Saint-Saëns and Martinů.
