Kirsty will take you on a creative journey in a relaxed and supportive environment where you will have the opportunity to explore diverse approaches to creating original artworks, with a focus on common place objects and forms. We will study different approaches to creating composition, studying the work of contemporary and classic artists for inspiration, and experimenting with different mediums. Learn how to create form using different techniques and mediums to achieve a 3D effect. Learn pen and water colour drawing techniques. Learn how to paint with acrylics, from life and photography. Explore shape and pattern in every-day objects to create exciting contemporary and abstract images in mixed media. Develop your drawing and painting skills.
Course aim
Have fun experimenting with a variety of mediums and techniques to create exciting art works, whilst learning or improving on drawing and painting skills.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Combine a group of objects together to make dynamic compositions.
- Draw various objects (man-made and organic) from life and from photographs, gaining an understanding of perspective.
- Mix and blend colour with paint and pastels using different techniques.
- Work in experimental ways with a variety of materials, using other artist’s work as inspiration.
- Begin to develop (or expand on developing) your own style.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
What else do I need to know?
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
