The Birth of NATO and its 70 Year History

Ref: C2340788

NATO was founded after the Second World War and will be 70 years old in April 2019. This course will look at the reasons it was set up and who the key General Secretaries have been. The actions that have been taken in those 70 years will be examined. The ending of the Cold War in 1989 caused a major reassessment of its role and yet NATO remains the cornerstone of Europe's defence and the rationale for this will be debated. The relationship between NATO and Russia will be under the spotlight. NATO has been under attack by Donald Trump and the question remains is if it still have a role to play in the twenty first century?
