Creative Writing Workshop

Ref: C2340740

This course allows new and previous students, or those considering doing a creative writing course to take a taster of what this might be like. A day of fun - experimenting with poetry and prose in small chunks. Come and have a go!

Course aim

This is a taster day for creative writing, allowing participants to 'have a go' - over one day, at poetry and prose. You can be a beginner, previous student, or someone just wanting to take a taster of what creative writing has to offer.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No previous experience necessary but open to new and more seasoned students.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have an idea what coming on a creative writing course will entail.
  • Have fun and meet like-minded writers.
  • Write and explore a few exercises in both poetry and prose.
  • Learn a bit about editing and polishing work via techniques taught during the exercises.
  • Spend a day concentrating on what it is you want to write.

How will I be taught?

  • As this is a taster session the above does not apply.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • pen and paper, folder, and if you are considering doing a fuller course, do think about keeping a writer's notebook, whatever form, electronic or otherwise, this might take.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No reading for the session, though books and websites will be suggested. Tutor's current books, Mr Bowlly Regrets, poems, and Brand New Beat, stories, King's England 2017 (both books).

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
