On this one day course, we will use a selection of paints,craft materials and techniques to create a colourful piece of 'Folk Art' jewellery, make a pop-up greeting card and decorate a traditional style wooden wall hanging. The session will include looking at images of Folk Art from Scandinavia, Europe and Russia for inspiration. Beginners and experienced crafters all welcome.

Course aim

To develop craft activities inspired by decorative Folk Art traditions of Scandinavia, Russia and Europe

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No previous knowledge or experience is assumed. The session is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make a shaped 'pop-up' greeting card
  • Use paints and embellishments to decorate a traditional style wooden wall hanging
  • Create a piece of 'Folk Art' jewellery
  • Recognise two types of Folk Art traditions

How will I be taught?

  • Informal and friendly demonstration of activities and support if required

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Informal and friendly review, discussion and support if needed

  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
