Course aim

To explore the life & works of Vincent Van Gogh & the way in which he developed his use of colour.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Contribute to constructive discussion of the material studied
  • View, analyse & discuss a wide range of example of paintings
  • Understand the background of the artist & context within which the works were produced
  • Consider the significance of Van Gogh’s contribution to the development of modern art within a wider artistic chronology
  • Realise the different aspects of Van Gogh’s work & style from his monochromatic works to the intensely colourful

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • A notebook & pen may be of use to take notes
