Explore the range of the main social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, Whatsapp & Skype. Discover which is the best to suit your needs, how they work, how to upload and share content such as photos and videos. How to search for specific information, how to add contacts and followers & how to sign up to your chosen social media site. There will also be the opportunity to explore your smartphone or tablet and send email attachments. Suitable for individuals and community groups.

Course aim

Anyone who is new to social media, or wants to learn about a different social media site, in this course you will explore a range of social media sites.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • Some basic IT skills in using a computer, tablet or smartphone.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Recognise most of the social media icons.
  • Navigate social media sites.
  • Upload content to a at least one social media site.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
