This introductory course will explore how we can find out about the local area using different forms of evidence. Discover what we can learn from images, artefacts, documentary evidence, maps, buildings and more. The course will focus on evidence from the old county of Lincolnshire and in particular the local area.

Course aim

To engage students in a better understanding of their local community and area through the study of Local History with a focus on Lincoln and the local area.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have an overview of how to use and interpret different forms of evidence together
  • Understand how to use artefacts as evidence
  • Have an understanding of what we can learn about the past from images
  • Have an overview of how documentary evidence
  • Know where to access resources

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Informal friendly feedback and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Tea and coffee will be available, you may like to bring some money for refreshments.
