Botanical Art in Mixed Media

This is an introduction and exploration of botanical drawing and painting plants. You will be taught traditional drawing and water colour painting techniques but you will be encouraged to develop your own style. During the term you can work through several projects which can be attempted at different levels by both beginners and more experienced students.

Course aim

This course aims to provide learners with the skills to observe, draw and paint plants. Using various techniques and mediums, learners will be encouraged to develop artistically.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Observe and draw plants and flowers in detail.
  • Show form and perspective in drawings ant paintings.
  • Use various mediums and techniques to draw and paint plants.
  • Produce a new piece of work using information learnt this term.
  • Be able to work on projects in a class situation and share ideas with other students.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Students will be expected to provide their own materials and equipment as the term progresses, however these can be borrowed from WEA at the start of the term.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
