Mindfulness Yoga 1

This course will cover a wide range of yoga movements working with the breath; each session will finish with a specific breathing exercise, meditation and guided relaxation. The session will be adapted to the needs of the individual and everyone is able to work at their own level. Mindfulness is an integral part of the course thus being awake, alert and aware.

Course aim

This yoga course works holistically: mentally, physically and emotionally. We will stretch, strengthen and relax mind and body with the breath as the link. Mindfulness is the underlying ethos.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Practice a range of yoga movements standing, sitting, lying with awareness and with the breath.
  • Practice the 7-Way Stretch and Salute to the Sun with awareness and the breath.
  • Practice Bhastrika, the pranayama (breathing exercise) for this term.
  • Practice the Meditation for the term - mindfulness counting meditation.
  • Relax in yoga nidra, the guided relaxation.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • Relevant handouts will be given out throughout the term.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A mat and a block, the latter can be purchased from the tutor.

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2018
