Taught by a published poet and fiction writer, this course enables new and more seasoned writers to have a go at new skills, and techniques. It also allows them to consider how best to polish and craft work. Looking at how to send work off will be available for those wishing to do so.
Course aim
This course allows writers to expand their knowledge of creative writing skills and ideas.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Recognise key ideas in creating narratives.
- Develop atmosphere via tone.
- Show progress in crafting and polishing work.
- List ways to present work for sending of, should you so wish to.
- dDevelop techniques in storytelling and narration.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
- Keeping a writer's journal would be also useful.
What else do I need to know?
- pen, paper, folder, and a writer's notebook (whatever form this may take).
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- No text books, but books and websites will be recommended. Tutor's current books: Mr Bowlly Regrets and Brand New Beat, poems and stories, both King's England Press, 2017.
