Scotland has a history which is full of complex threads. The aim of this course is to disentagle the web beginning with the mists of antiquity and the coming of Christianity. Then the journey proceeds into the Middle Ages and examines individuals such as William Wallace and Robert Bruce. The development of Scottish government in the Tudor period and the Mary Queen of Scots affair will be studied. The relationship with England in the sixteenth century and seventeenth century and in partiular between the English Parliament, Royal families and the Republicans are germane to this course.
