Love Theatre - will travel

Ref: C2339560

We will choose a varied selection of regional theatre. Small scale studios or large venues? We will think about the influence of theatre size and stage shape on productions, aiming to illustrate our learning about theatre architecture and audience empathy. We will see Nottingham Playhouse's The Madness of George 111, and alternate the large auditorium productions with studio performances, depending on regional theatre listing. We will juggle the historic with the contemporary, always relating back to the issues of our times.

Course aim

To discover theatrical places and spaces - going where theatre is exciting, comparing experiences of small studio with large auditorium productions

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • All you need to attend the course is an enthusiasm for theatre, a willingness to join the group in their travels and want to debate the issues we experience afterwards.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explore the key elements of the plays and productions seen.
  • Discuss your experiences, gaining confidence in expression of your views.
  • Exchange views with others profitably, sharing ideas and thoughts.
  • Identify key points as to how theatre buildings work.
  • Share research of points of interest to you during the course.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • It is to be hoped that you will take part in the theatre visits so that you can gain most benefit from the course.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • I hope that on our theatre visits you will consult me about your learning and any extra points which may occur to you as we spend time together outside the classroom.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources
