Connecting to your senses is a really valuable way to support your overall health and well-being. During this session, we will explore the basics of aromatherapy, practice a self hand massage and also experience a guided meditation. The overall aim is for you to develop your sensory awareness and bring it into your self-care activities at home.

This course ends at 2:30pm as there is a 30 minute lunch break included.

Course aim

To provide an introduction in using your senses to support your overall health and well-being, with a view to incorporating them in regular self care within your home.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • In order to fully enjoy the content of this session, you will need to have at least a conversational level of English language as you will be following guided direction at a set pace.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Outline the key factors to use Aromatherapy safely within your own home.
  • Create a personal aromatherapy blend.
  • Demonstrate a self hand massage
  • Assess a guided meditation experience.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • We want to ensure this is a safe experience for you. Please note that Aromatherapy has contraindications which include pregnancy, epilepsy, respiratory, skin conditions etc. If you have ANY pre-existing health condition, please ensure you check with your doctor before attending this session.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
