Summer Term Art will see the process of designing and making 10ft flags in collaboration with ‘Eyebrow’ Arts to be used in the Norwich Lord Majors procession. The Theme chosen will be ‘Uncharismatic Mini Fauna’. The initial session will be a talk from Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The final session will be working in collaboration with an artist to transfer all the designs onto the flag using batique.

Students will be referred onto this course by Under1 Roof and all will be service users of Under1Roof

Course aim

This course is for service users of Under One Roof. It provides relaxed and informative environment for both experienced artists and beginners.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Draw a chosen insect bug or mini fauna creating an image suitable for the group flag. Explain how the subject contributes to the wider world. For example coral provides a home in the sea helps algae create oxygen.
  • Working with the rest of the group to assemble everyone’s pictures in a final composition.
  • Enlarge images onto 10ft flag ready for batique.
  • Attend a batique workshop to create the group flag.
  • Present the flag in the parade or walk with the group.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
