Would you like to get back into work but don’t know where to start? Or are you keen to develop your skills and boost your confidence? Whatever your goals, this course can help you get on the right track to achieving them. The course is run over four modules and each module consists of 2 sessions at 2.5. hours each. hours long Confidence Building: Low self-confidence is one of the main problems for people seeking work, and the most commonly reported benefit of education and training is ’improved self-confidence’. Recognising Achievement, Skills and Ability: Recognising the skills and ability developed through being a parent and exploring ways to develop these skills. Money and Other Reasons to Work: Knowing how and where to get financial support. Explore ways in which employment can enhance a student’s lifestyle and family commitments. The Interview and Getting the Job: Build on interview techniques and how to create a good first impression through non-verbal communication.

All students will be referred onto this course by JCP and all students will be in receipt of a means-tested benefit.

Course aim

To build up your confidence, knowledge and skill to get a job for the first time or return to work after having children. To look at the type of work you would like to do and help you make choices that suit you and your family commitments.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain what type of job I would like
  • Know what skills I need to apply for a job
  • Complete my own CV
  • Learn how to answer interview questions
  • Complete a mock interview

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider

  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2018
