This course will help you recognise the level of English, Maths and IT knowledge you have. You will be asked to identify the level of English, Maths and IT skills that you already possess for use in work and to think about the additional skills that employers are looking for. You will be asked to find ways you can further develop your English, Maths and IT skills and will have time on the course to start working on areas of these subjects you would like to improve on.

Course aim

This course aims to look at the core skills of English, Maths and IT, asking you to think about the skills you have and identify ways of developing them. You will have the opportunity to start working on those you would like to improve.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • List my existing skills in relation to English, Maths and IT. These could take the form of qualifications, knowledge I can demonstrate to the tutor, or skills gained from working or other experience.
  • List 3 English skills, 3 Maths skills and 3 IT skills I would like to develop
  • Research ways in which each of the skills above could be developed and keep the information for the future.
  • Pick one skill I would like to develop and work on it in class

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
