This course encourages you to look at where jobs are advertised and to examine job advertisements, identifying where the most appropriate jobs for you can be found. You will be encouraged to look at what employers are saying in their advertisements and interpret this in relation to your own skills and experience

Course aim

This course aims to help you to search for jobs by identifying the important parts of a job advertisement, matching them to your skills and putting together a list of sources of job advertisements.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • List sources where jobs are advertised.
  • Identify the different parts of a job advertisement.
  • Select five advertisements you would like to apply for
  • Decide how suitable each job is based on your skills, experience and other circumstances, for example where you live.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • All materials will be provided
