Visit to Forncett Industrial Steam Museum

On arrival an introductory talk about the Industrial Steam Museum, followed by a tour of four engines in steam. We will learn how and why the museum was built over the last 46 years. We will enjoy a buffet lunch in the Gimson Engine Gallery, home-cooked and provided by the owners. After lunch a second tour will trace the history of the Industrial Revolution with working examples of engines from 1698 through to modern steam turbines. a tour of the boiler house and the Victorian Engineers Workshop followed with tea and homemade cakes during a short talk about the steam railway from Wells-next-the-Sea to Walsingham.

Start time 10:00 and ends at 4pm but included 1hour lunch break and tea breaks. Meet at Forncett Industrial Steam Museum, Low Road, Forncett St Mary NR16 1JJ. Refreshments are included in the fee.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the Steam Museum to discover the steam engine and the museum itself, and why it was built.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Trace the history of the Industrial Revolution
  • Discover the history on your doorstep
  • Exlpore the different range of raliways and engines across the county

How will I be taught?

  • Discussions with the tour guides and among the group.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
