Day School: Talk and Guided Walk around Walsingham; Trip on narrow guage railway

The picturesque village of Walsingham has many places of interest including the Anglican Shrine, Abbey runs with 18 acres of landscaped gardens, Parish Churches and Georgian Courthouse and Prison, among others. Coffee on arrival then a talk about history and architecture of the village, followed by a guided tour of places of interest as above. After lunch take a return trip to Wells on the narrow-gauge Wells & Walsingham railway, arriving back in Wells at 4pm.

Start time 10:00 and ends at 4pm but included 1hour lunch break and tea breaks. Meet at the Norton Café at the Anglican Shrine, Walsingham. Please bring a packed lunch or visit a local supermarket. Car Park - off Common Place nearbyNR22 6BP

Course aim

A talk and guided walk around Walsingham with a local guide, plus a trip on the Wells and Walsingham Railway.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Discover the history and architecture of the village of Walsingham
  • Find out more about the narrow-gauge railway in the area.
  • Appreciate why this was a premier site of pilgrimage in Medieval England.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring a packed lunch and sensible walking shoes.
