This exciting course will leave a lasting impact in the form a huge mural along Norwich's popular spot for entertainment 'Riverside'. It will be a group project where participants will be have to work to a formal brief and will create and submit a design agreed as a group. The course covers Norwich's rich trade history, particularly the history of riverside. Learners will see the project through all way to completion including supervising the application of the mural when its final design is created.

Students will be service users of the U1R facility and students will be referred onto the course by U1R.

Course aim

This course will explore the design, submission and creation of a large mural in Norwich. It is a group project that will explore art, design and some of Norwich's history.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Communicate ideas to a group project
  • Explain the brief given, collaborate ideas and explain and why these are important in the creation of a design.
  • Explore the trade history of Norwich around the Riverside (as per the mural brief).
  • Design, plan and create a series of ideas into a larger piece.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • All materials will be provided
