Starting School

Ref: C2226460

Starting School is designed to support parents/carers whose children are about to or have just started school. The course aims to give adults a better understanding of what and how children learn in their Reception year and how this can be supported at home. The group will explore the physical, social, emotional and behavioural skills needed by children starting school and how these might be developed at home. e.g. getting changed & sharing. Adults will be introduced to the teaching of phonics, including a range of activities that can be used to support learning, and will be encouraged to try out what they have learnt at home. We will then spend time working with a range of everyday items to develop fun activities, which can be used to support children's learning in maths, reading and writing. There will be plenty of time for discussion and sharing of ideas. By the end of the course, parents will have the skills and confidence to support their children's learning at home.
