Do you have good English skills but find it difficult talking to a professional person? Do you need to know how to write official letters maybe to a housing association, a doctor or a school? This course will enable you to build on your language skills with written and speaking exercises. You will learn in a friendly and fun environment. This will help you feel more confident talking and writing to organisations and professionals and increasing your literacy skills.

Course aim
to provide help with Talking to Professionals, improving letter writing to professionals, building confidence and increasing literacy skills.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- identify correct wording and phrases to use when speaking and writing to organisations and professionals
- write a letter to an organisation or professional using more formal English
- identify the differences between informal and formal speech
- feel confident when needing to approach professionals and organisations
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
