Film: Points of View - Buildings and Places

With the use of photography and film recording, students will explore their surroundings and comment on them, whether it be socially, culturally, historically or on an individual and personal level. Students will be able to discuss their findings as a group.

Course aim

To explore the student's individual surroundings,using photography, and to be able to discuss the many aspects of their findings with other students.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • The course is for those students who engage with Perspectives at Volunteering Matters, Ipswich

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Photograph images that have an individual interest.
  • As a group decide on locations in the town which might have reason to be photographed or filmed for any particular reason.
  • Film or photograph the chosen locations that could be considered newsworthy and file a report on them.
  • Discuss the results from outcome 3 and add a suitable verbal or written commentary.
  • Be able to work as a group using photography and film as a medium.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • Students are encouraged to come up with their own ideas on the subject so that perhaps they might be incorporated in the course.
