Introduction to First Aid

The course is designed for those who come in to contact with children and others. Having some knowledge on how to assist before a trained First Aid person or Paramedic arrives and takes over. To be aware of what sort of information is needed to be obtained from the causailty and how to deal with any situation.

Course aim

This course is to give reassurance for basic first aid around the home. Including minor bleeding, nose bleeds, different types of cuts. Recovery position, CPR, AED, calling emergancy services.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Administer CPR correctly and use an AED
  • Deal with an unconscious person
  • Give accurite information to the emergancy services
  • Deal with burns
  • Apply differnt types of bandages

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A number of pratical exercises will be given.

What else do I need to know?

  • Note book and pen Please attend in loose clothing and trousers for the women as there will be some pratical exercises

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
