In a supportive and safe environment, learners will be able to gather more in depth knowledge about how to build their confidence after experiencing abuse. There will be 6 sessions in total focusing on the following themes: 1- Abuse (How to identify it, its different forms, types of abusive relationships/partners, recognising the abusive cycle) 2- Communication skills (verbal and non-verbal) and assertiveness 3- Definition of Conflict On the last session there will be an opportunity for learners to speak with other providers that can help learners progress to other courses or provide with any additional support needed.

Course aim

To discuss abuse/abusive relationships, communication skills, dealing with conflict and strategies to improve confidence building after experiencing abuse.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is aimed for Domestic Abuse male victims

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify the signs of abusive relationships
  • Identify the elements of an abusive relationship cycle
  • Recognize the importance of communication skills and interpersonal skills as a tool of empowerment
  • Define conflict and list some conflict reduction strategies
  • List some of the ways in which confidence can be developed and maintained

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Workbook to be completed by learners during the sessions

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
