Garden Appreciation: Royal Gardens

A look at five of England`s fabulous royal gardens to see how they set the fashion and trends that others followed, and how they shaped the development of the English garden. The course will include the gardens of Hampton Court, Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, Sandringham and Kew Botanic Gardens.

Course aim

To introduce students to a number of great English royal gardens and explain the history and plants associated with them.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To distinguish the influences of the royals on garden fashion.
  • Gain greater knowledge and appreciation of the history of the royal gardens.
  • Analyse the use of plants in the different periods of the royal gardens.
  • Gain an insight into which royals were really keen gardeners themselves.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
